​Internship

We offer an internship in Therapeutic Recreation, supervised by a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. The purpose of the internship is to provide students with a professional, educational and enjoyable internship by offering the opportunity to work with people that have developmental disabilities. The Out & About program is focused on offering quality Therapeutic Recreation Services in a community based setting. As an intern, you may facilitate art, movement, sports activities and much more! ​

Goals           

  • Provide the opportunity for students to increase their knowledge of disabilities
  • Provide the opportunity for students to access and utilize a variety of community resources and facilities
  • Provide the opportunity for students to enhance leadership and professional therapeutic recreational skills
  • Provide the opportunity for students to be an active member of a support team
  • Provide the opportunity for students to develp skills in documentation and facilitating classes 

Requirements

  • Have an interest and desire to work with individuals of all abilities in indoors and outdoor settings. 
  • Possess a current driver's license, clean driving record, and personal health insurance. 
  • Maintain professional communication with staff, volunteers, participants, families, and providers. 
  •  Seeking or obtained a degree in therapeutic recreation or recreation management. 

  • All your training is paid for by Out & About
  • A $350 monthly stipend is given/$1050 total

Volunteer Opportunities

Out & About has a variety of volunteer opportunities available assisting staff members in working with participants.

If you are interested in volunteering as a fulfillment of school credit requirements, we can provide documentation verifying the number of hours you work for us, a description of the type of work and a review of your work.  ​
