Colette Marie: Director of Services
I started with Imagine! in 1984 when the company was known as the Boulder County Board for Developmental Disabilities. I began with the former Adult Day Program when the de-institutionalization movement was in full swing. I was interested in how to provide enrichment and employment services in the context of the community. Mark Emery, our current CEO, interviewed and hired me. I was very inspired by his belief in community-based programming.
I have a bachelor’s degree in English from Whitworth College in Spokane, WA. I was a graduate student at CU, intending to get my master’s degree in Education and English, when I applied to the BCBDD. I decided to take a break from graduate work for a year and 29 years later I’m still here! I worked in the Day Program that became Labor Source for 3 years, transitioned into residential and worked at the 19th St. house and in the former Community Apartments & Follow-Along Program, before being asked to manage Out & About in 1997.
Elena Ciaravino: Assistant Manager
I was born and raised in Boulder, Colorado. I graduated from Portland State University with a degree in humanities. While in college, I was a nanny for a young girl who had autism and my time with her really sparked my interest in working with people with developmental disabilities. I enjoy dancing, , running, hiking, reading, and I LOVE to travel. In my twenties, I spend a lot of time abroad, both living and traveling. I have traveled to 20 different countries and had the wonderful opportunity to live in Cape Town, South Africa, Rosario, Argentina, and Tokyo, Japan. But, I wasn't jumping around the world the whole time. I had the wonderful opportunity to work at Imagine! as well. I was an Out & About Instructor in May of 2008 and January of that next year started working as the Catalog Coordinator, which shortly after turned into Adult Services Coordinator over seeing both the Day Program and Catalog Program until January of 2011. After a 3 year hiatus from Out & About in Tokyo, I came back to Out & About to oversee the Children's Services Program from May of 2014 to October 2015, and enjoyed every minute! Currently, I couldn't be more thankful and excited to be part of all programing, both Children and Catalog, having moved into the Out & About Assistant Manager roll. I look forward to many more amazing memories to come!
Aaron Glick: Billing & Data Specialist
Born and raised in Evergreen, CO to a family of six, I attended Colorado School of Mines for my Bachelors of Science in Engineering Physics. My focus was theoretical physics, studying quantum simulations and mathematically defining/describing complex systems. In the future I hope to pursue clinical research in neuroscience, focusing on theories of learning and memory! I love cooking, eating, coding, hiking, reading, and woodworking. I started working at Out & About as an instructor in the fall of 2015, which was a breath of fresh air from academics. I am excited to server as the Children Services Coordinator beginning fall of 2016, and to help facilitate the growth of the program as well as building the skills, abilities, and independence of all our kids! My goal is to be a source of support and transparency for kids, parents, and staff to provide the best service possible, so feel free to send concerns or suggestions my way.
Ally Joel: Catalog Services Coordinator
Howdy! I have worked for Imagine! for roughly five years both at Out & About and as a Family Recruited Employee (FRE). I have worked my way up the "Out & About ladder", beginning as a Therapeutic Instructor, later transitioning into a Lead Instructor & Summer Camp Base Site Coordinator role, and finally landing my role as Catalog Program Coordinator. I have a Bachelor's of Social Work degree, which I obtained from Metropolitan State University of Denver in the Spring of 2016. I feel very lucky to have been born and raised in Colorado. I enjoy food, playing music (cello, piano, viola, singing in the shower, etc.), painting furniture, hiking/biking, knitting, camping, and Sudokus. I love to express my creativity in any facet that I can. I am excited to bring my creative spunk and energy to the wonderful adults of Out & About in my new role as Catalog Coordinator. It is my goal that every adult in our program develop and continue to challenge themselves in building independent living skills, social skills, and a sense of "possibility" in their lives through therapeutic recreation!
Cassie Sowers: Children's Services Coordinator
I was born in Brunswick, Maryland, where I attended elementary through high school. I later attended Shepherd University, getting my bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation. I quickly jumped at the opportunity to come to Colorado when Out and About offered me an intern position in the fall of 2016. I soon fell in love with this job and its participants, and decided to make a permanent move. I applied for an instructor position after my internship, applying for the Children's Program Coordinator position this past March. I love taking time to explore the outdoors and traveling, living life with kindness and adventure. I am so grateful that I was given this opportunity and strive to create a positive therapeutic experience for all of our kids.
Nicole Hebert: Catalog Services Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
I am from Emerald Isle,
North Carolina and attended college at the University of North Carolina
Wilmington. I have always been passionate about the health field, being
active, and living life to the fullest. I found a major that encompassed
all of my passions with Therapeutic Recreation, and I couldn't be more
grateful. I moved out to Colorado to complete my degree through an
internship with the City of Boulder, and absolutely fell in love with the area
that I decided not to leave! I found great opportunity with the Imagine!
organization, and I am excited to start my journey as a Catalog Services CTRS!
Elizabeth Aslin: Catalog Services Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
I was born and raised in Brookfield, WI right outside of Milwaukee. I attended the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse where I stumbled upon and found my niche in Therapeutic Recreation. I finished up at UW-L with degrees in Therapeutic Recreation and Psychology before I headed out here to Colorado for my internship. I completed my Therapeutic Recreation internship with Out & About this spring (2016) and loved it so much that I stuck around to work as an instructor for the children and adults! Now I'm following my passion on this new adventure as the Therapeutic Specialist for the Catalog Program. I'm delighted to be working
alongside such a wonderful team and being a part of the O&A family!
Maggie Evans: Children's Services Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
I happily started my journey in Therapeutic Recreation at the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse. A week after obtaining my Bachelor's degree, I packed up a car and made the big move out to Colorado, where I joined the Out & About team as an intern. I later became an instructor within both the Adult and Children's programs. I am ever-growing with this amazing organization, as I am now filling a role as one of the Therapeutic Specialists for the Children's program. My time outside of work is filled with running, hiking, ice cream eating, DIY-ing, watching sports, and reading. I will forever continue to promote the importance of Therapeutic Programs as a means of creating new opportunity for individuals of all abilities. Therapeutic Recreation holds a warm, fuzzy place in my heart and I am really looking forward to unending Out & About adventures!
Bridget Heddens: Catalog & Children's Services Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
I was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN and later moved to Marshalltown, IA for middle and high school. Wanting to stay close to family and friends, I attended the University of Iowa to major in Therapeutic Recreation and Dance. From there I found that my two opposite majors actually had a lot in common; through learning the therapeutic value of creative expression and movement during school, I was able to mold my two areas of study together. I had the privilege of bringing this idea to life while teaching Movement during my therapeutic recreation internship during the summer of 2016 at Out & About. I am so grateful for the opportunity to stay on as a Therapeutic Specialist with Out & About and contribute my dedication and passion for the arts and community-based recreation to the participants we serve.
Zack Pataska: Children's Services Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
I was raised in La Crosse, WI, where I eventually received a degree in Therapeutic Recreation from UW-La Crosse. While attending UW-La Crosse, I coached several sports for the local park & rec and also worked for a company that provides support services to children from a range of disability populations. After my coursework at UW-La Crosse, I completed an internship placement with the City of Boulder's EXPAND program. I enjoyed my time in Boulder very much, which recently motivated me to move back to Colorado. In my spare time, I like to take my dogs hiking, disc golfing, swimming, and playing softball. I am excited to join the Out & About program, and look forward to contributing to the development of the participants. Shannon Oleson: Vehicle Coordinator
Having grown up in a military family, I travelled a lot, but spent most of my childhood in Jefferson, ME and Farmington, NM. I attended University of NM (Valencia campus) and studied for an Applied Science Degree. My main tasks at Out & About include maintaining upkeep for all vehicles in our fleet and developing/implementing various trainings around vehicle safety. I play an active role in Children Services and spend time with the kids having fun in the community!
